Joséphine Brueder
Born in Paris in 1991, Joséphine Brueder graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor's degree in Photography from the École de Condé Paris. In 2013, she also obtained a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, specializing in Photography, from the Université Paris VIII.
For the past six years, the photographer has been working for the City of Paris, where she is entrusted with a wide range of missions to provide content for the mayor of Paris and the city's various communication media. She takes a unique look at the relationship we maintain with our environment and is currently working as a visual artist, exploring the image, its representation, and its mediums, questioning the place of images in public, material, and virtual spaces.
To do so, she travels across different territories in search of visible traces left by humans. She assembles these signs into series and seeks to understand images as social forms that occupy time and space. Joséphine Brueder is always in pursuit of the most accurate form, whether through exhibitions, installations, or book publications.
Her series L’Amérique was exhibited in 2018 at the La Gacilly X Fisheye magazine festival, as well as at the Rencontres d’Arles at the Fisheye Gallery, and later in Baden, Austria, in 2019. In 2022, her series In dintorno di Vesuvio was exhibited at Cluster Gallery in London.
Oups, nous avons rencontré une erreur, veuillez réessayer ultérieurement is a book published by Objet Papier in 2023, featuring screenshots of glitches from her mobile devices collected over more than fifteen years. In this work, the photographer explores the hidden corners of our daily environments, revealing traces found in our digital memory extensions.
In 2024, she exhibited at Galerie 102 in Paris, alongside artists Rebecca and Magali Brueder. The exhibition Versantfocused on the theme of mountains and, more broadly, nature—its beauty and fragility. The photographer’s series May be an image, which explores how artificial intelligence interprets her images, was notably featured in the exhibition.
